"Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
When I was a child, still caught up in my own world (before developing big-picture thinking), I used to think that I was the only one who saw strife, war, unrest and fighting all around me. That others simply didn't care enough to want to do anything about it, didn't want to talk about poverty or famine or confront their own shortcomings. Didn't want to admit that somewhere out there, people were suffering, fighting was wrong and war didn't get anyone anywhere apart from dead - Fast.
I couldn't understand then (and still can't now) how humans, thinking people like you and me, could simply go on with their lives pretending there was nothing at all wrong with the world while the nightly news told us how screwed up our entire planet was.
Then I heard of John Lennon.
And everything changed.
I realised that I wasn't the only one, not at all. And what a wonderful feeling that was, to know that I was (and am) a part of a global network of people who've been working towards realising peace on earth for so much longer than I've been alive. People who've been spreading the word, influencing the masses, healing the world one step at a time, inspiring leaders and advocating for peace, for respect and understanding, for a change in the way we think, for prosperity and for happiness.
Even though John Lennon died before I was even born, he is one of the people who has inspired me the most. One of the people who has shown me right (and left!) from wrong and taught me to follow my own conscience in all things, no matter what the media or those around me say or do.
Possible THE most important thing I learnt from John Lennon was to have the courage to think my own thoughts and come to my own conclusions. He taught me that it's okay to believe in Prince Charming, okay to want to believe in Happily Ever After despite knowing all about divorce statistics. That it's okay to believe in World Peace, in Men Who Will Appreciate me for my Brains instead of my Boobs and monsters and dragons and Hobbits and elves and ...
“I believe in everything until it's disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it's in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now?”
